Introducing Avis global

Avis is owned by the Avis Budget Group, the global leader in the automotive rental industry, with a network spanning in 170 countries, with approximately 5,750 locations.

Avis Global has a long history of formation and development, with significant milestones, marking its maturity and changes.

In 1946, Warren Avis established a car rental company, Avis. It was also the first company provides airport pickup service and quickly expanded in the 1950s through franchising, which made the brand more widely known.

In 1963, Avis launched the slogan “We try harder” and it is still being used today as a tagline, sending the spirit and will of Avis to customers. The tagline is also known as the promise of all Avis employees to make all efforts to improve the quality of each service.

Avis changed the ownership many times in the 1970s and 1980s, followed by many technological breakthroughs. In particular, with the exclusive appearance of Wizard system, the process of making reservation of customers has become more and more convenient.

In 1987, Avis introduced to customers a system where customers do not need to come to the counter but can still easily book their journeys.

In 1996, HFS Incorporated acquired Avis, making Avis a public company.

In 2001, Cendant Corporation acquired all shares of Avis Group Holdings and then moved its headquarters to Parsippany, NJ.

In 2006, Cendant Corporation was splitted into four independent companies: Realogy, Wyndham Worldwide, Travelport and Avis Budget Group.

Avis Budget Group is also the parent company of today’s global Avis Rent a Car system.
